A new technique that capitalizes on remaining nerves allows amputees to intuitively control their prosthetic limb, providing them with a much better level of control than traditional prosthetics.
Scientists describe a procedure to surgically transplant nerves from the shoulder to the upper-chest muscle.
The rerouted nerves then grew into the muscle, which amplified the messages once sent to muscles in the arm and hand; those signals are read by sensors on the prosthetic limb and translated into movement. The patient also developed a surprising degree of sensory perception in the upper chest, which scientists say will be key in the next generation of prosthetics.
Most artificial arms are controlled by remaining muscles near the amputated limb. But the devices can be frustrating and slow: the user must consciously contract those muscles to trigger a movement, and only one movement can be performed at a time.

The scientists transplanted to the upper chest both motor and sensory nerves that, prior to the amputation, would have traveled from the shoulder to muscles in the arm and hand. In the months after the surgery, the transplanted nerves grew into the chest muscle, eventually triggering twitches in the shoulder muscle when the patient thought about moving her hand or elbow. Scientists then mapped the precise pattern of muscle activity that occurred when the patient mentally executed specific movements, such as grasping or moving the elbow. Liberating Technologies, a prosthetic-device company, then made a specialized prosthetic limb, which was programmed to sense muscle activity generated by the transplanted nerves and use it to control movement of a motorized elbow, wrist, and hand.

The patient was able to use her new arm within a few days, becoming four times as fast on movement tests as she was with her traditional prosthetic.

This all changed with the advent of DHI or direct hair implants. This new method uses a revolutionary tool to remove individual hair units and place them in the bald area. The hair can be transplanted from several different areas of the head and even other parts of the body. A skilled surgeon can place the hair in such a way that it is virtually unnoticeable compared to the existing hair. It is also a very fast female hair loss treatment. After the party are the after parties, and none is more exclusive than the Vanity Fair Oscar party. This year the party moved to the Sunset Tower after a year off.

Despite editor Graydon Carter's earlier claims of a smaller Vanity Fair Oscar party on Sunday night, the event permit filed with the CIty of West Hollywood, which CityFile dug up, says they're expecting a thousand people.

When Carter first announced that it would bring its usual Oscar party back this year, he said they were going to aim for a guest list of 650 instead of the customary 1,000-plus names. The move to pare down invites made sense given the recessionary times and the recent not-so-opulent mood at Conde Nast. But deciding who would get cut from the list — which, while full of celebrities, also includes more than a few advertisers who are currently being begged to buy ad pages — would have been a mighty chore.

This is the first year Vanity Fair is throwing the bash at the Sunset Tower Hotel (last year's party was cancelled amidst the writers strike; before that it was thrown for fourteen years at the restaurant Morton's). It's the same place where the magazine has thrown its Golden Globes party, so the party planners are familiar with the space. Morton's had a parking lot where they could set up a tent. But having spent some time at the Sunset Tower, it's difficult to imagine 1,000 people cramming into the hotel's lounge, bar and pool area all at once.
According to the NY Post, it was The Party be at, with guests leaving other bashes to come to Vanity Fair."The party" featured Kate Winslet clutching her Oscar, Vivi Nevo and fiancée Ziyi Zhang sitting with Brian Grazer, Wendi Murdoch and Phillip Dauman, and MySpace founder Chris DeWolfe huddling with Lyor Cohen at the inside bar.

Assigned by Look Magazine to photograph Marilyn Monroe for its 25th anniversary issue in November '61, Douglas Kirkland was already well known for shooting the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Marlene Dietrich.

Marilyn Monroe arrived with the usual entourage of assistants to pose for the photographs, however, she soon requested that she and the young photographer were left to continue the shoot alone.

'I can only say this: it was extremely intimate'' comments Kirkland. 'It was just myself, the camera and Marilyn.... Frank Sinatra filled the room with his seductive beautiful ballads. That was the atmosphere of the evening: quiet, soft and enticing...

'I had three encounters with Marilyn Monroe,' Kirkland said. 'The first took place at her apartment, which was small and unimpressive, not the type of place you'd expect to see a super star live in. She was disarming, she laughed easily, and I felt like I was talking with a sister. When she arrived at the studio for the photo session though, I felt I'd been hit by a lightning bolt. She didn't walk-she floated in slow motion'.

When Kirkland met Marilyn for the third and last time to review the photos, she was dark and depressed and at first unimpressed with the images, until finally she fell in love with them.

This was Marilyn Monroe only weeks before she died: “I feel if I fulfill myself as a person, I’ll find myself as an actress. The thing is, it seems like I have a superstructure with no foundation. But I’m working on the foundation!”

30 years: What cream to use?

If your are a woman in 30s, it's time to think, and care for your skin more than ever. This also include the prevention of wrinkles and blemishes that comes with age. Here are my recommendations:

Day Cream
To meet the needs of the skin of a thirty years old woman, a moisturizing cream must contain hyaluronic acid (for its moisturizing and anti-function), vitamins E and C (important for prevention), and a solar filter.

"The filter is not always necessary, - says Dr. Ribuffo - depends on skin type and the kind of life you lead. "

A serum can be used with the day cream. The serum is a concentration of super-hydrating substances that can have a lifting effect (tensor).

Night cream

The night cream should contain greater amounts of active ingredients, including acids that can improve the texture of the skin and promote a greater absorption. It also contains retinol, vitamin C and alpha hydroxy acids (AHA's) to help boost skin repair as well as moisturising it.

Do I really need a special cream for my face?

The answer to this is YES! According to dermatologist Dr Leslie Baumann, Chief of the Division of Cosmetic Dermatology at the University of Miami School of Medicine, it is very important to know your skin type. For example, she says, 'oily types do not need a night cream unless for a treatment such as to reduce inflammation or get rid of dark pigmentation patches'.

What is glamour?

The word "glamour" has its roots in spell-casting, sorcery and magical enchantment.While perceptions of glamour may have changed with the times, the core of it remains the same: Being glamorous is all about creating an attractive and exciting illusion that you lead an envied life.

Glamour is the quality of one persone fascinating, alluring, or attracting in combination of charm and good looks. Glamour is something that mysteriously fascinates us, that has no rational explanation and that seems to be somewhat, or totally, inaccessible to us.

Glamour and style are a manufactured quality. Both must to be cultivated like a blossoming flower. Learning to love yourself in the mirror, creating your own personal style and having the self-confidence to stand out in a crowd are all necessary ingredients for feeling glamorous.

This is what I intend to teach you. Not how to be glamorous, but how to become self-confident in a way that you will know how to spark attraction.

The more that you are willing to look for an answer to how to be glamorous, the more likely it is that you will find your answer.
